The MakeUp Show Dallas 2015
The Make Up Dallas was back this year with some amazing new make up, educators and talented make up artists. I could not attend the make up show last year due to other overlapping events, however this year, I was there with my bells and whistles. You have probably seen all my postings on social media about this. If not my instagram handle is @jennifermairo ( as well as all other social media accounts) lol.
I was fortunate enough to attend the media preview a day before the event. Bloggers had the opportunity to hear about this year’s products and how the show would be different from the year before. One of the pioneers and celebrity make up artist James Vincent was able to host us bloggers to some inside scoop. He was so open and educated on the products and founders. Fun to listen to.
As soon as the talk was over, I rushed over to James and gave him a big hug. He was to snuggly (if that’s a word)
After the preview, I paid my $18 valet fee (annoying0 though the contents of the goodie bag cost way more) lol, I went hope to hug on all my beauty products. From lip stains to powder and foundation to totes and pencils. It was like a child lost in a chocolate factory. I could not attend the Saturday event but surely I hurried to the Sunday one as early as 8:50 am. ( show started at 9am)
I was able to speak with the owners of Nurturing Force who described every last one of their products as well as explain their reason for partnering with the show. They wanted to give consumers access to their products and wanted to be part of a show that was more than just selling but also educating and providing career opportunities for others”. I was thrilled to have spoken to them..
The Make Up Forever HD Foundation was the highlight of the makeup show for me. This new product retails for $43 at Sephora and I paid $0 for it. #bloggerperks. It was also about 40% off at the make up show. You might want to mark your calender for next year’s event because I have never seen anything like it.
James Vincent answered some questions and advised us on the best summer products that fit the weather and our big Texas personalities. See the Q&A session below and make sure you check out www.themakeupshow.com for details for future events;
Interview with James Vincent: Summer Makeup Tips
Q- Since Dallas gets really hot in the summer, what makeup products would you recommend that can survive the heat and humidity?
James Vincent: Waterproof and long-lasting are key terms to look for when building the ideal summer makeup kit. Start with waterproof foundation like MAKE UP FOR EVER Face and Body Liquid Makeup for sheer coverage. It will even out the skin tone and allow for sweat-proof beauty. Next, look to powders that help keep everything in place. INGLOT 3S Mattifying Pressed Powder or NARS Invisible Powder are ideal for adding long-wear durability to the most natural or dramatic makeup application.
Eyebrows are also essential for any Texas makeup lover. Let Anastasia’s Dipbrow or Senna Cosmetics Brow Fix (STYLEanthropy’s note: I personally use this and love it) bring you the perfect eyebrow application every time – also waterproof and worry free.
Cream eyeshadows come in a variety of waterproof formulation and a variety of colors. Some of my favorites are MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Matic Eye Shadow, NARS Cream Eyeshadow, and Smashbox Limitless 15 Hour Wear Cream Shadow.
Focusing on lips is a great way to get impact in a makeup application without the worry of summertime heat. Try a sheer stain like Pinnacle Cosmetics or a bold long wear matte like Temptu Lipsticks for a perfect lip that stays put. Finish it all off with a setting spray like Skindinavia or MAKE UP FOR EVER Mist & Fix to keep your makeup in place in the most intense heat and humidity.
Don’t forget the body for a beautiful summer look — Gleam by Melanie Mills in Rose Gold or Yellow Gold is beautiful on the shoulders, décolletage and legs for the perfect summer glow.
What should be the first products we need to switch up when weather gets warmer (as compared to winter)?
JV: The first products to switch out should be skin care and foundation. Skin care should be adapted for every season because your skin’s needs will be different depending on the time of year. For summer, focus on exfoliation with a gentle product like TwinMedix and a light moisturizer like Embryolisse La Creme.
Foundation shades will change every season. No makeup is one tone and summer heat can darken or deepen any skin tone. Be sure that your foundation matches by swacthing it along your jaw line and adjust it if need be.
SA: Are there products or formulas we should avoid during the summer?
JV: No. There are no products that need to be avoided, but your application might adjust depending on the heat or humidity.
Q: Can you share some makeup tips or trends for the summer season.
JV: Winged liner is back and beautiful. For a sexy summer makeup look try MAKE UP FOR EVER Graphic Liner, Kevyn Aucoin The Precision Liquid Liner pen, or Crown Brush Studio Glam Liner for soft kitten liner looks that work for day or night.
Blush makes a big return for this summer season. Pair NARS Contour blushes with a bronzer or try Senna Cosmetics Cheeky Blush Palette for perfect glowing summer skin.
Lastly, it’s all about the lips. Dare to go unexpectedly dark this summer with bold burgundy and berry shades like Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Black Dahlia, INGLOT Cosmetics Matte Lipstick no. 412, or Ellis Faas lip color in Dark Blood. Another great trend to help hold everything in place in summer’s heat and humidity is to use a setting spray like Model In A Bottle Original Setting Spray or Skindinavia to set your makeup without powder.
